Restore system backup in Windows 2000/2003/2008

You can read before: Create full registry backup

Windows® starts successfully

  1. Log on to Windows® as Administrator.
  2. Run Registry First Aid and select Restore Registry From a Full Backup.
  3. Select backup date and restore.
Alternate method is to use System State backup:
  1. Log on to Windows® as Administrator;
  2. run Registry First Aid and select Restore Registry From a Full Backup;
  3. click the button "Restore from a System Backup".
Or use the system Backup utility:
  1. Run the Backup utility from the Programs > Accessories > System Tools menu;
  2. in the Backup utility select the Restore tab;
  3. choose the backup media;
  4. then select the System State check box.
Keep in mind that the Backup utility will not only restore the registry, but it will also restore all of the system state data.
Note: After the System State restoration process is completed, you need to shut down and restart the system. You won't see the results of the restoration immediately.

Windows® does not start

Restart Windows® by using the "Last Known Good Configuration":
  1. start the computer and then press the F8 key when Windows® begins to start; The Windows® Advanced Options menu appears.
  2. Use the ARROWS keys to select "Last Known Good Configuration" (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
  3. Windows® will restore the computer to the most recent restore point.

Warning! Make sure that your backups are current. If you restore an old backup it could be fatal if you've made major changes to the operating system or hardware since the backups were created.
